Once again, most Pictures in these Ground Floor level webpages are from the Turner Bequest of the Tate Museum Collection Online. JMW Turner's watercolours and Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice — surely a match made in heaven. As mentioned previously, the fact that Turner and Jane Austen were born in the same year, 1775, Turner in April and Austen in December, permits us surely to believe that the two shared many unspoken assumptions about the world in which they lived? It is also fact that both Turner and Austen found inspiration in contemporary English mansions, Turner for example at Petworth, Farnley, East Cowes Castle, Fonthill Abbey; Austen among others at the imaginery sites of Pemberley, Mansfield Park, and Northanger Abbey. JMW Turner's watercolours and Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice — surely a match made in heaven.
