In my opinion, Star Trek will
endure for so long as there remain among us persons
unable ever to relax their guard:—
- — Persons who will never belong,
never be part of the gang.
- — Persons of a different faith, a
different colour, a different language and
culture to the rest.
- — Persons with a prison record.
- — Persons who should have a record,
but haven't yet been found out.
- — Persons with a secret that can
never be revealed.
- — And, most of all, persons who
have found a place that gives them that fitful
elusive precarious sense of belonging, which they
maintain at unimaginable cost.

And the ears, for the heart, for the mind, and
for the soul.
These are my first thoughts on the beginning Episodes of
Season One.
- Season-1A:—
Why 'The Man Trap' is all wrong for Episode 1 ...
In my opinion, choosing 'The Man Trap' as the first Star Trek
episode to be shown on that fateful day of September 8, l966 was
the most catastrophically bad television network decision ever
made — other than showing 'Charlie X' as Episode 2. All
might yet have been forgiven, eventually, if they hadn't followed up
with 'Where No Man has Gone Before' for Episode 3.
- Season-1B:—
... But perfectly acceptable as Episode 5
In my opinion, everything wrong with 'The Man Trap'
as Episode 1 is rectified by choosing it as Episode 5.
- Season-1C:—
Captain Pike and the Ultimate Promotion
In a truly miraculous development, Captain Pike of
his own volition left Starfleet in order to pursue other more
rewarding avenues of endeavour, including, if my memory serves,
making a film in which he played Christ The Lord.
I may be wrong to the point of heretical, but
Captain Kirk would have been the better choice in that role
as well.
