Il semble que la perfection soit atteinte non quand il n'y a plus rien
à ajouter, mais quand il n'y a plus rien à retrancher.
—
Antoine de Saint Exupéry
Terre des Hommes, ch III: L'Avion, p 60
——
Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing
more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.

Worth a thousand words ...
- I never intended to have Pictures.
But here they are, the images that changed the way
I think, for better – I would like to continue or
for worse, but that's clearly impossible in these
days of intense visual stimulation.
Hubble Footer — all Pages
- I wanted a midnight sky, with stars, for my Masthead.
But hated whatever was available on the Web, other than a few
photos taken from the Hubble telescope.
- And then while shopping at Hallmark for a Christmas
calendar for myself I found, tucked between a Cézanne and
a Star Trek The Original Series, an official 2012 NASA Hubble
calendar. I bought them all, no regrets.
- Not a chance that I would cover any part of a Hubble
image with Masthead titles, no matter how tasteful, as I had
originally intended.
On the other hand, scanning less than an inch from the edge of
September gave me a universal Footer, to wrap up each
webpage and put it to bed.

- Pictures for this Page are keepsakes from our
June 2nd 2011 visit to the Montreal
Museum of Fine Arts on Sherbrooke Street West to visit the Exhibition of
the Terra Cotta Army from China which had been in place since
the previous February and would be moving on very soon.
- Note that taking photographs of the Exhibits inside the Museum
is not permitted, but quite lovely photos are available at
the MMFA/MBAM
exhibition website.
- The Museum bookstore also offers many treasures, including an
official MMFA guidebook, as well as a magnificent book of photographs and
relevant poetry, The Terracotta Army, by
Gary Geddes, winner of the
Commonwealth Poetry Prize, Americas Region. I haven't actually
reproduced any of those photos but the book is available in PDF format from
gooselane.com. If
it can be found, the original is well worth buying and keeping.
- Of course, the Exhibits are even more spectacular in real life, if it's
permissible to describe 2,200-year-old objects in such terms.

- There is no logical explanation for the choice of pictures on this
